What is Social Engineering/People Hacking?
Social Engineering is the manipulation of a person or persons through psychological or non-technical means, in order to gain access to finance, data, information or even physical access to premises or goods. Its a “people hack” because it uses human beings rather than technology as the basis for an attack.
Who is at risk?
We are all at risk from malicious social engineers who would manipulate anyone they can in order to achieve their goals, however, company staff are especially vulnerable as they provide a good route to accessing an organisation’s information and data for a malicious social engineer.
How do they do it?
Its a mixture of psychology, persuasion, influence, acting skills and general criminal behaviour that usually make up this type of con.
How can we protect ourselves and our staff?
There is lots of free advice, presentations and recommendations in the Deception Chronicles Blog and we offer company surveys, awareness training and consultancy in this area.
Our Social Engineering Awareness Training courses and videos are simple, inexpensive ways to spread awareness and help protect employees of all levels from people based hacks.
